The advent of each new administration calls for the broad re-creation of our country every four to eight years. Such moments of re-creation offer an opportunity to learn from the biblical creation story itself.
The Torah teaches us that we must pray for the wisdom of our leaders and the quality of government, no matter our feelings toward specific politicians. Extraordinary times require extraordinary prayers.
We hear the news of the massacres and the suffering, but will we listen? The world cannot continue to stand idly by while the death toll keeps rising. We cannot be silent in the face of yet another slaughter.
God, let the circle of compassion widen enough to include the vast and diverse American family, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
