Your officiating rabbi or cantor – along with a partner or guest – will certainly appreciate an invitation to your reception. It’s a thoughtful gesture on your part, and some consider it proper etiquette.
Many clergy will stay for the reception only when they have a social relationship with the couple or their family. Others look forward to celebrating with every couple; after all, they’ve spent time getting to know you and planning with you for this day. Others will choose to stay just long enough to wish you and your family a mazel tov.
